The Horst Pharmacy Difference
Our Reputation: Horst Pharmacy is built on a foundation of honest business practices, making sure to follow all rules and regulations set by the Missouri State Board of Pharmacy.
Our Service: We emphasize the patient-physician-pharmacist relationship. We work with physicians to get the necessary ingredients into a specific dosage form to fit the needs of the patient. We offer personalized care through the option of compounding. Horst Pharmacy can change dosage forms and strengths; eliminate preservatives, dyes and fillers; change flavors; and prepare discontinued products.
Our Expertise: We have been in business over 30 years, including 20+ years in compounding. Steve Horst has been an innovator in the world of medicine, bringing forth new formulas to our area to solve the specific needs of individual patients. Our pharmacists have been through extensive training on compounding and continue to learn through CME training all over the country.
Our Credentials: We are licensed and in good-standing with the Missouri State Board of Pharmacy. We are a member of Professional Compounding Centers of America (PCCA).
Quality Ingredients: All of our ingredients are tested by an independent laboratory in the U.S. prior to passing it along to our customers, assuring you of batch to batch consistency, and superior quality in your formulations.
Quality Procedure: All of our compounding technicians make sure to follow quality procedures set by the Missouri State Board of Pharmacy and PCCA. Procedures that make a difference such as; washing our lab-ware in purified water instead of tap water, calibrating our balances & other equipment daily, and double checking our formula ingredients by using an electronic system & scanner.
Quality Equipment: Our entire line of equipment was purchased through PCCA including, but not limited to our electronic balances, capsule machines, homogenizer, hot plate/magnetic stirrer, electronic mortar & pestle (unguator), and ointment mill. Our top of the line equipment ensures quality and consistent medications.
Unlimited Resources: Being a member of PCCA allows us to have access to thousands of formulas and build a network of pharmacists across the nation.
We deliver/ship: We can deliver to your home or office in the Cape Girardeau area. We also ship medications daily making sure to send in the proper storage conditions.
Community Minded/Locally Owned: Steve Horst has been an active member of the community for decades. He is a member of the Jackson Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, and Southeast Missouri Medical Board as well as being involved with his church and Jackson R-2 schools.
Compared to chain stores, locally owned businesses recycle a much larger share of their revenue back into the local economy, enriching the whole community!
Frequently Asked Questions
When an individual is unable to take or use a commercial medicine, costly problems may occur - such as avoidable physician and emergency room visits, hospital admissions, and lost time from school or work. We reduce this waste and improve our patients' quality of life by compounding prescriptions - making medicines into forms that people can use. We help doctors solve these problems:
- Dosage Unavailable:
A powerful medicine may be available only in 25 mg and 50 mg capsules. Yet, a doctor may find that the best dose is 40 mg. We can prepare a dosage form that will contain exactly this amount. The patient doesn't have to take too much medicine, which is wasteful and could cause adverse effects, or too little medicine, which could be ineffective.
- Dosage Form Unavailable
Medicines often are available only in tablets or capsules. But infants and individuals who have difficulty swallowing may need a liquid, suppository, or other dosage form. We can compound these dosage forms to contain the medicines people need. See a complete list of our Dosage Forms here.
- Medicine Unavailable
Pharmaceutical companies may stop making products for which there is limited demand. A limited demand is likely to occur when a newer medicine comes into the market. However, some patients may respond better to the discontinued medicine than to its newer counterpart. If we can obtain the medicine in its chemical form, we can compound the discontinued medication.
